Dr. Brian Kim, M.D., M.S

Dr. Brian Y. Kim is a board-certified UCI Health specialist in family medicine and sports medicine. He provides multidisciplinary care for active individuals, with a particular focus on runners and metabolic bone health. He currently serves as a team physician for UC Irvine Athletics.

Kim earned his medical degree at UC Irvine and then completed an internship and residency in family medicine at UCLA. He also completed a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at UCLA, where he conducted research on the female athlete triad and bone stress injuries in collegiate runners. He also holds a master’s degree in nutrition science from Columbia University, with an emphasis in sports nutrition. His clinical interests include metabolic bone health, overuse injuries, sports health and nutrition.

Kim has worked extensively with athletes at all levels and in various sports, including track and field, volleyball, martial arts, ski and snowboarding, tennis, soccer, swim, cycling, golf and gymnastics. He has also served as the primary physician on-site for the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO, where he provided integrative, collaborative and multidisciplinary care for Olympic-level athletes.

He believes that exercise is medicine. His goal is to encourage a healthy lifestyle for all his patients.
