Clinical Interests
Sohaib Z. Hashmi M.D. is a dual fellowship trained orthopaedic spine and trauma surgeon. Dr. Hashmi specializes in the management of cervical, thoracic and lumbosacral spinal disorders. He has an interest in complex spinal pathologies from trauma, tumor, deformity including scoliosis and flat back syndrome, degenerative disc disease and athletic injuries. Additionally, he is highly trained in the treatment of revision spinal surgery. As a dual fellowship trained orthopaedic spine and trauma surgeon, Dr. Hashmi works in coordination with multiple subspeciality medical and surgical teams especially in the treatment of the multiply injured patient from the initial injury through recovery. Dr Hashmi uses both traditional open and minimally invasive techniques to address patient-specific pathology. Dr. Hashmi performed his orthopaeedic surgery residency at Northwestern University, after which he completed orthopaedic traumatology fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and then a second fellowship in complex orthopaedic spine surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center and R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.
Research Interests
Dr. Hashmi has a wide range of research interests related to disorders of the spine and orthopaedic traumatic injuries. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Additionally, his work has been presented at national meetings at American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopaedic Trauma Association, Orthopaedic Research Society, Cervical Spine Research Society, Lumbar Spine Research Society, North American Spine Society, and the Western Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Hashmi’s current research interests include patient-reported outcomes studies in orthopaedic spine and traumatic disorders treatment and surgical education.
